Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose cremation?

  • Many people choose cremation because it means they can have the ashes of their beloved pet with them when they finally pass away themselves.
  • You can scatter your pets ashes in favourite locations where you spent time maybe walking or on holiday together.
  • Ashes can be shared among family members and friends of the pet or even a small amount can be placed in one of our Jewellery keepsakes.
  • If you have more than one pet you can combine them at later stages in a larger casket.
  • When you move home you can take your pets ashes with you.
  • Even when your pet passes you can keep your beloved pets ashes in your own home.

Am I guaranteed to receive all of my pet's ashes back?

  • Yes, at NDPC we only offer GENUINE Individual Cremations to pet owners.
  • We do NOT undertake mass creamations or deal with any type of clinical waste incineration.
  • Your pet will be cremated in their entirity on his/her own.  No trays or other devices which allow more than one pet to be cremated are used.
  • Because we only offer individual cremations you are guaranteed that the ashes you receive back are those of your pet.

Is NDPC Fully Licensed to operate?

  • NDPC is licenced by the Planning Authority, Environment Agency  and DEFRA.
  • This ensures we adhere to strict legislative requirements and operate to a mandatory Duty of Care at all times.

Can I make prior arrangements in the event of my pets death?

  • Many clients contact us in advance to arrange our services.
  • A prior appointment can be made if your pet has to be put to sleep by the vet, you can then bring your pet to us in person, or arrange for NDPC to collect from the practice or your own home.
  • Whichever option you use you can say your final "goodbyes" in the privacy of our Farewell Room.

Is it possible to have my pet collected from the vets?

  • Yes, however you MUST specifically request to your vet that you wish to use the services of Newark and District Pet Crematorium and that the veterinary pracitice contact us to arrange collection of your pet from their surgery.
  • You cannot automatically assume that your pet will be sent to us at NDPC, it may well be sent for mass cremation to another pet crematorium which could also be out of the area and possibly not adhere to the APPCC code of practice (see Our Code page for details).
  • Once NDPC have collected your pet we will contact you directly to discuss your wishes and requirements.
  • Please ensure you contact us prior to collection to discuss our collection charges.

Will NDPC collect my pet from home?

  • Yes we will, however once again please contact us to enquire about our collection charges.

Can I bring my pet to NDPC myself?

  • Yes, you are most welcome to bring your pet and say your final "goodbyes" in the privacy of our Farewell Room.
  • We actively encourage our clients if possible to choose this option.  We understand it gives peace of mind to see where and how your beloved pet will be cared for at NDPC.
  • This option is available either by telephoning for a prior appointment or before leaving your veterinary practice.

If my pet dies at the Vets will they automatically offer me the services of NDPC?

  • No not necessarily, it is important that you yourself request the services of NDPC, you cannot automatically assume that your pet will be collected and cremated by us unless this is your personal request.

What is the Association of Private Pet Cemeteries & Crematoria (APPCC)?

  • The Association represents many privately owned pet cemeteries & crematoriums. Its main objective is to ensure all of its members abide by and operate within the confines of the organisations strict CODE of Practice (see Our Code page for details).
  • The APPCC is currently the only organisation in the U.K. setting standards for cremation and burial of pets such that owners can understand the service being provided. Unfortunately, owners may not always get the service they expect unless they use a facility that is not afraid to set out its procedures clearly in writing.
  • Newark & District Pet Crematorium are proud to be members of the APPCC.

Will my pet be treated with dignity and care?

  • Yes, we view all pets as we would our own and therefore treat all pets with the utmost dignity, respect and care.
